Focused ultrasound for blood brain barrier disruption and tumor ablation

Ryo Tsuda with Dr. Nathan McDannold (BWH)

I am a fourth year Bioengineering/Pre-Med major currently working at the Focused Ultrasound Lab at BWH. My project will be researching the use of focused ultrasound in clinical applications such as disruption of the blood brain barrier, ablation of brain tumors, and excitation/inhibition of neurological processes. Brains of mice/rats undergoing ultrasound procedures will be characterized via MRI. Application of this technology could increase drug efficacy into the brain itself through BBB disruption or suppression of tumor growth through ultrasound ablation.
