I am working on a diagnostic test using lateral flow assays to identify acute kidney injury at its onset, as it is a common cancer complication that results in higher costs of treatment and worse patient outcomes. I am using two gold nanoparticles, Erbium and Thulium, in order to detect the presence of the KIM-1 and NGAL biomarkers. The gold nanoparticles allow even low concentrations of these biomarkers to be detected. This project will allow for much earlier diagnosis of acute kidney injury, which will allow for better treatment and outcomes of cancer patients.
